Micah Movement News

We often ask what we can do regarding Anti- Human Trafficking. Prayer is needed.

I have been in communication with a NC Human Trafficking Commission member this week, following my attending the Commission’s meeting in September. The members of the Commission will be making considerations for recommendations to the NC General Statutes Commission. Please pray the Commission members will respond with favorable recommendations to several efforts which will help bring hope to victims of human trafficking. One of these is the posting of the National Human Trafficking Hotline Number (888-3737-888) in places where victims might be found. This is time sensitive as the Commission must have this piece completed by November  7.

Elizabeth Dole honored by IWU

Elizabeth Dole honored as IWU World Changer

Elizabeth Hanford Dole, whose influence extends from the highest levels of American government to the world’s largest humanitarian organization, was inducted into the Indiana Wesleyan University Society of World Changers during homecoming activities on Friday.

Dole, a former U.S. senator and president of the American Red Cross, was honored at a convocation in the IWU Chapel Auditorium. IWU established the Society in 2003 to recognize role models who have exemplified the concept of world changers and whose lives can serve as an inspiration to future generations.

A native of North Carolina, Dole was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University and then earned a law degree from Harvard Law School and a Master of Arts degree in teaching from Harvard.

During her career in government, she has helped open doors for women by becoming:

·         The first woman to be appointed U.S. Secretary of Transportation. She later served as Secretary of Labor.

·         The first woman to represent North Carolina in the U.S. Senate.

·         The first woman candidate from a major political party to be considered a viable candidate for the U.S. presidential nomination.

Dole was the second woman to head the American Red Cross and completely restructured the organization during her eight years in that job. In 2012, Dole founded the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to raise awareness and support for more than one million caregivers of our nation’s wounded warriors. She has been married for 39 years to former U.S. Senator Bob Dole, who also was the 1996 Republican nominee for president.

Her friends, Pastor Ernest and Susan Mullins, brought IWU’s attention to Senator Dole as a person worthy of this ‘World Changer’ honor. Pastor Ernest and Susan were present at the event to represent the NC East District and celebrate this occasion with their friend.
