NC East Pastors:

If you are in need of a guest speaker for your church in 2014, I'd like to recommend Pastor Sidney D. Wheatley of Greensboro. Pastor Sid, and his wife Linda, are two of the newest members of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church and the NC East District.

Pastor Sid is available to speak on the topics of racial reconciliation, relationship restoration, church revitalization, prayer, worship, and a host of other topics, in a traditional revival format, a weekend conference format, or a single service format.

In April of 2013, Pastor Wheatley held revival services at Rushwood Park.  He was the first African American pastor to preach there in the church's history. His powerful preaching and joyfully loving the people, were very, very well received.  The revival attendance was double Rushwood's usual attendance for recent revivals, and many members said it was the best revival that they could ever remember Rushwood having.

Pastor Sid has a wonderful way of breaking down barriers with the love of Christ that others cannot.

If you are interested in having Pastor Sid Wheatley speak at your church for a week, a half-week, a weekend, two services, or a single service, you may contact him at 336-207-6254 or send him an email at bishopsdw@yahoo.com

Domican Republic MIssion Trip Opportunity

Summer Mission Trip

Dominican Republic Trip Itinerary

July 31 – August 8

This is our third year in service in the Dominican Republic.  The NC East District has expressed a commitment to walk with them in the process of developing the Youth Camp ministry of their District.  Once again we would like to send a team that could participate with the Dominican Youth Camp, and serve in various churches throughout the country.  The complete itinerary is still taking shape, but we do have the most important information nailed down (the dates), as well as a targeted cost breakdown for the trip.

My vision for this year’s team is to work at the Youth Camp, participating in all of the activities, using our talents, leading in creative dramas, sports, speaking and sharing our testimonies.  We will then reach out to a few of the Wesleyan churches for the purpose of doing children’s ministry or youth activities, and an evangelistic event.  Depending on the number of team members and the ability to work out the logistics, there is a possibility that the team may divide in to two or three groups and spend the ministry days at a specific church.  Activities at a local church may include a work day, outreach day, and an evangelistic event at the church.

Mission Trip Costs:

o   Airfare                                                  $    700.00 (Approximately)

o   In-Country Expenses                      $  1000.00

o   Trip Insurance                                   $      26.40

The in-country costs are a pre-set number that is established by the mission work there in the Dominican Republic.  It covers food, lodging, transportation, translators as well as a day-trip to a resort on their day off.  Because the work there is new, the churches are small and the network to manage teams is still developing.  Therefore the teams will stay in local hotels and will eat at local restaurants most of the time.  These in-country costs are $125.00 per day, per team member.

If you or young people and adults in your church are interested in participating in this trip contact Pastor Jonathan Lewis, jwesleylewis88@gmail.com  or 366-299-8062.

Water Need in West Virginia

We received this information from HQ this morning about the toxic water situation in West Virginia. I wanted to pass it along to you ‘as is’ so you could read and respond as the Lord directs. I saw on the news last night that Asheboro Rushwood Park is already gathering bottled water to send to the Mountain State. The church located at 1810 Old Farmer Rd, accepting drinking water, paper goods (plates, cups, utensils), and hand sanitizer. Everything collected this week will get delivered to West Virginia. Church members will be at the church to accept donations on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:00am-8:00pm. They plan to send the loaded truck to West Virginia next Saturday. Fayetteville Faith Church is also gathering bottled water, they hope to take up two truckloads this week, contact Garry McClendon at Fayetteville Faith  910-224-2361 or garry.wiley@gmail.com  A plan and contact information is in the information below, from Shenandoah District Superintendent Greg Reynolds. Thank you in advance for responding to this need.

From Wayne McBeth, General Director of  Communication The Wesleyan Chruch. We have just received and posted this news from Greg Reynolds on our website www.wesleyan.org  But I am sharing it with you all so you are aware immediately of this situation that affects Wesleyans and others in these church communities. Greg is writing to his own district churches but perhaps those districts who are close to the West Virginia area might consider reaching out to pastor Chris or Jason to see if water or other help can be provided from a reasonable distance.   Thanks for caring about our families in need in West Virginia.

Water crisis in West Virginia due to contamination

Brothers and sisters, several counties in WV (part of Shenandoah District) have been affected with emergency “toxic” water issues. Dangerous chemicals have gotten into the water supply and the people cannot use it for anything but flushing toilets. This problem affects several of our local churches and we as a church family should respond. The shelves of stores are empty of water and the people are in need. Some of the people in the area just got their electricity back on from the winter storms and now have the water issues. The government issued the "stop using" order late on Thursday, Jan. 9, and no one knows how long it will be in effect. 300,000 people are directly affected.

I have talked with Pastors Chris Shinn and Jason Page earlier today (Friday) and they have shared what is needed. Water of course is the huge need, the most urgent. They also have need for hand sanitizer or wipes of some kind that can help with cleaning needs…. Our Wesleyan family is affected by this, but so are many other people that Faith Community Church in Charleston and Grace Church in Culloden want to respond to. What an opportunity to minister “a cup of cold water in Jesus name!” I would love for churches within driving distance to consider helping out.

Here is the plan….

1. Collect water, hand sanitizer, etc and transport it to Charleston or Culloden, WV. Call Chris Shinn at 304- 539-4936 if you are taking the supplies to Faith Church (Charleston) which is a staging ground; call Jason Page at 304-634-5638 if you want to take/send supplies to Grace (Culloden) which is also a drop off point.

2. Would you consider taking an offering of compassion on Sunday that could be put in Chris or Jason's hands for added supplies that may surface? This water issue will last some time; the toxic leak has been stopped but it will take time for the systems to become decontaminated.

3. Chris is requesting 5 gallon containers that can be filled again and again that they can use during this emergency. These containers can be purchased at a place like Sam’s, Lowe’s, etc I think….

This is an opportunity for us to partner in a crisis; let’s do it!

Thank you! Feel free to call me if you have further questions. Again, Chris and Jason are the guys to connect with. God bless you!

Letter from Gen. Supt. Dr. Jo Anne Lyon

Greetings in the New Year! This is a season of new beginnings as we restart the calendar, and for Wesleyans, it is also the start of the Wesleyan Community Bible Experience campaign that I believe has the potential to usher in revival across our denomination. Much time and effort has been given to publicizing this campaign, and I am encouraged by the reports of churches who are joining the Wesleyan Community Bible Experience.

I would love to witness every Wesleyan leader, layperson, and student in every church within every district engage in this campaign February 24 – April 18, and I believe this can happen if we all call on His name! Therefore, I’m calling on all churches on Sunday, February 23 to pray for the individuals and churches who are participating in the Wesleyan Community Bible Experience. Will you and your district join me in praying for God’s favor as we commit ourselves to reading through His Word together?

Believing that lives, churches, and communities will be transformed and made new!

Blessings,

Jo Anne Lyon

NC East Wesleyans in the Word

February 24 – April 18

Will you join with Wesleyans all over North America in this Bible reading adventure next month? Thousands of people across The Wesleyan Church will read the entire NIV® New Testament in just eight weeks to gain a deeper understanding of the whole story of the Bible. More like a reading club, this special edition NIV Bible is not separated into chapters and verses and is read more holistically, like ancient Bible manuscripts.
It's time to act! Wesleyan Community Bible Experience will launch globally during the 2014 Easter season (February 24 – April 18).  Now is the time to organize your small groups, discipleship classes, children ministries, and integrate this campaign into the life of your church.
"Given the fragmentary and out-of-context Bible sampling that pervades our Christian world, any Bible reading that is more holistic and sustained is a good thing. Feasting on whole books and getting immersed in the narrative is healthier than snacking on Bible McNuggets." - Glenn Paawu, Bible publisher-North America, Biblica       http://www.wesleyan.org/419/40-day-community-bible-experience

New Heritage Hill Cabin at VMC

Progress continues on the building of the newest Heritage Hill Cabin at Victory Mountain Camp, as you can see in the attached picture. We’ve consistently had from 5 to 11 volunteers help each day that we’ve worked, which has made the project move steadily forward.

Red Sunday - Micah Movement

By Tricia Rife | Dec 18, 2013

Save the date! January 19: Sanctity of Human Life Sunday  (NC East and Micah Movement now call Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, Red Sunday.)

Every year in the United States alone, more than one million babies are aborted. Statistics show that 50 percent of U.S. women who obtain abortions are younger than age 25, and at current rates, nearly one-third of American women will have an abortion.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 19, 2014, is a day to celebrate and focus, instead, on choosing life.

Because all human beings are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” (Psalm 139:14) abortion grieves his heart. God, the Creator of the universe, deeply values human life and it says so in his Word:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! (Psa. 139:13-17 NIV).

The Wesleyan Church supports the sanctity of life and those who choose to trust God despite unlikely odds. January 19, 2014, marks Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, an event observed the third Sunday of every January. Wesleyans are encouraged to observe this day on which many take a stand for human life.
