Eden Trinity Helps with Operation Christmas Child

Eden Trinity Wesleyan had 12 volunteers go to Samaritan's Purse in Boone, NC on December 17th to help pack shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  The boxes come to the distribution center already packed from local churches.  Then the volunteers go through the boxes to make sure that there is nothing in the boxes that should not be there.  They also add more items if needed.  Then the boxes are packed up and ready to be shipped.  This is something that Eden Trinity has been doing for several years, along with collecting packed shoe boxes from their church.  This year they were able to send 74 boxes for children around the world.

The Micah Movement..... January Focus....Addiction and Suicide

Some statistics show suicide is considered the eighty-dominant cause of death in the United States and 29,000 to 30,000 take their life annually.  Even greater numbers of people attempt suicide. The number of suicides reported amongst younger adults under the age of 30 has made a alarmingly tragic increase.  Death by suicide, climbed to be the third leading cause of death for young people age of 15 to 24 years old.  The Micah Movement is asking our local churches to help us focus on this during the month of January.

To bring this to the local church, the following  options are being suggested:

The first is the screening of TO SAVE A LIFE. A powerfully inspiring film featuring the struggles of high school friends dealing with life out of control and realizing, one person can make a difference. This film is PG-13 and available  on blu-Ray and DVD.  Shop the website, amazon.com, Life Way Christian  Book Store, Family Christian Stores,

The next option is resourcing the professional counselors/therapist  available in your church/community.  Ask they teach of the  warning signs/risk factors associated to  suicide and how to respond.

Additionally.... our own Micah Movement team members, Josh Stegenga and Josh LeRoy are available to give a presentation / conduct a teaching session on this issue. Josh Stegenga is founder of a non-profit called HIS SCARS TO OUR SCARS in High Point. He works  with those dealing with  an addiction or  at risk of suicide. He can be reached at 336/491-2736 or

healinginthewound@live.com  .   Josh LeRoy has written a book dealing with depression and suicide. He regularly deals with these issues in his ministry.   He can be reached at 336/626-8974 or joshleroy6@hotmail.com

THE COMPASSION EXPERIENCE VISITS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

CHANGE THE STORY: THE COMPASSION EXPERIENCE VISITS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

Interactive Tour hosted by newhope church Immerses People Into The Real Life World Of Impoverished Children On Three Continents

Durham, NC - The Compassion International Mobile Experience tour makes a 4 day stop in Durham at newhope church Central Campus on December 13-16, 2013.  The tour kicked off in Knoxville on July 19 and is making its way across the country to educate people about the lives of the more than 1.3 million children Compassion serves globally.  Here is a video highlighting the experience -   http://www.compassion.com/change/about-the-experience-video.htm

The Change The Story: The Compassion Experience is two trailers totaling 3,500 square foot that feature replicas of the homes of three Compassion beneficiaries who live in extreme poverty on three separate continents.  In the twenty minutes it takes to tour the facility, visitors will fully experience the despair of poverty as they are immersed in littered streets and sounds of insecurity surrounding a closet-sized dwelling.

“It is our hope that people who walk through Change The Story will personally experience and celebrate the transformation of so many lives of children living in poverty, and, through that, realize their own personal transformation as so many do when they travel abroad and see poverty first hand.”

Created in a warehouse in Central City, Kentucky, Change The Story brings Americans as close as possible to the realities of over 1.3 million Compassion beneficiaries in 26 countries, whose households survive on less than USD$1 per day.  Change the Story will stop at over 35 towns and travel 65,000 miles of the United States in a year.

newhope church is excited to host Change the Story, and sees it as a powerful tool to help people experience poverty and realize the blessings so many have in America.  They hope it motivates people to further invest themselves into this great global cause.  They extend the invitation to all in the central North Carolina area to participate in this free event and open to all!

Christmas Gift for the Pastor

There are still 6 rooms available for our upcoming marriage retreat for pastors and

their spouses.  This would make a great gift during the Christmas season.  When they

speak of a “gift that keeps on giving”, I can think of nothing better than investing in the

relationship of your pastoral couple.

If you would like further information, or to register, please contact Larry Pope at

larry@brownwesleyan.org or by phone at 336-656-7206.

Grennsboro Triad Freedom Church Launch

Sunday, December 1, marked the launch of Triad Freedom Church, meeting at the Palladium Theater on Highway 68 in South Greensboro / North High Point. There were 87 in attendance on this holiday weekend to experience awesome worship and the passionate sharing of the Word. Under the leadership of Pastor Josh Moses and a solid 40-member core team, this church is already doing a great job of reaching into the community. Over this past year they have developed a strong core, small groups, worship band, children’s ministry and partnership with Southwest Guilford High School. Through work relationships, the majority of their congregation is comprised of young, un-churched families searching for truth. Please join in praying for and supporting this new church with so much potential. You may send words of encouragement and congratulations to Pastor Josh at joshmoses36@gmail.com.
